Betty Gara known to me as Mrs. Gara was one of my best friends Mom, her son Brent. I've visited their home many times growing up with Brent and I honestly can't remember Mrs. Gara ever welcoming me without a beautiful, heartfelt smile on her face.
We always had a laugh too being their dog at the time wasn't very fond of me to say the least. Their was never a time when I didn't feel a warmness as well as sincerity radiate from her. I missed Mrs. Gara so much when I decided to move to Malibu, California in 1982.
She had a heart filled with love that never forgot to call me and ALWAYS send a birthday card on time. We would chat and pick up where we left off the following year as if no time had passed by at all.
I remember visiting N.J. a few years back and naturally had to go visit with her with my new wife.
As always so welcoming, she invited us to stay at her home, and had a spread of coldcuts and food for 20 people. LOL She raised beautiful children and Brent and I have been friends for over 45 years. She was simply an Angel of light and will be that in heaven also.
Love you always like a Mom, Dominic Cosentino
Ps. Having been in the nursery business for 40 years nothing could be more appropriate then remembering Mrs. Gara with a living tree. They will b live and strive together, forever !

My mom was the most giving person I have ever known. She always put the happiness and feelings of others before her own. I find solace that she is at peace and happily reunited with my dad, her Freddie. I will miss our walks, talks, and the comfort we found just being together. Mom, to say I will miss you is an understatement. Love you.

My Mom was not only my Mom, she was my best friend. She was my confidant, always willing to give sound advice. I will always cherish visiting her every weekend and being "mothered"... always coffee ready when I walked in the door (hot water poured in the cup to heat it up), and of course pancakes waiting. I was grateful to help her with any odd jobs around the house, just as she had helped me so many times throughout my life. I will always feel her warm hug, her gently saying "I love you," and her waving goodbye from the front door, a big smile on her face, as I drove away to go home. Perhaps she didn't realize she was my home. And now she is home with Dad. I love you forever Mom.

My Mother in Law, Betty Gara, was "one of a kind" - simple as that.
Her gratuitous demeanor was infectious, a true worker by nature and a wonderful wife to Al.
Betty was a dream in every sense of the word. Her passing deeply saddens me but her spirit and memory lives on in my heart.
One day, we hope to catch up with you Betty Gara - we have a pretty good idea of your new address.....
Love,
John

I never knew I had cousins, Betty and George, until my mother died some years ago and I started to clear her house. I came across a very old letter from an Irene Rockfish to my mother, in which Irene referred to her children, George and Betty. After doing some research, I discovered that one of my mother’s uncles was George and Betty’s father, Henryk Heynar. It was a genealogist based in the US who was able to provide me with their addresses. I made contact with them both, and it went on from there, by letter to begin with, and then by email. Betty and I had some wonderful exchanges over the years, sharing family history as well as photographs. She sent me such amazing photos of her family, particularly her great-grandchildren, whom she referred to as the ‘greats’.
I was able to discover where in Warsaw’s huge Brodno Cemetery Henryk Heynar is buried. I visited the grave, and laid flowers from George and Betty. I believe it was Betty who came up with the wording on the card: From across the miles but not forgotten, your children, George and Betty.
I will always cherish the time I spent getting to know Betty. Rest in peace, dear cousin.
Hania

My sister and I had a hard start in life. As young kids we experienced life in WWII Poland. We lived thru the oppression of Hitlers occupation.
I'm not going into details but to say that once the Germans were defeated and the Russians took over my father was on on their list as persona-non-grata. They eventually caught up with him and exiled him to Siberia. That left my mother, sister and me by ourselves. Thru kindness of friends and our uncle and aunt Kilarski we were able to escape occupied Poland and come to America.
My sister and I were placed in a regular school not knowing a word of English. You can imagine our struggle with that. But it all worked out and we went on with our lives.
Betty and I were geographically separated most of our lives. She in New Jersey and I in California. We kept in touch throughout the years and saw each other by visiting back and forth. Those times were very dear to us.
When I learned of her passing it was a huge shock.
I will miss my little sister.
Betty's brother,
George
