Obituary of Philomina Mathew

Philomina Mathew, 75, died peacefully on Thursday May 23, 2024, at Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center in Plainsboro, NJ.    She was born on September 8, 1948, in Kerala, India to her dear parents the late Elizabeth and Joseph Olickal.

Philomina was a devoted wife, loving mother, wonderful grandmother and a dear sister, and friend to many. She will be missed by all who knew her.  Philomina was a homemaker but also enjoyed the years as a teacher for college prep school.   She loved music especially native country music.   Her main love was her family, who she adored with all her heart.

Philomina is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Mathew M Areekkattu, her two sons, Shinto (Kamal) Matthew of Belle Mead NJ and Sabin (Teenu) Mathew of Hillsborough NJ and two daughters Sharlet (Dinker) Abraham of South Brunswick and Sophia (Rijo) George of South Brunswick.  She is also survived by the joys of her life, her 10 grandchildren, Tia, Christlynn, Aleena, Jace, Dominic, Gabriel, Mikaela, Clare, Catherine and Carmel and her two sisters (Rose & Mary) and two brothers (Michael & Bosco).

Philomina was predeceased by her parents Elizabeth and Joseph Olickal and her two brothers and a sister.

A wake will take place on Tuesday evening May 28, 2024 at 6:00 pm and followed by Holy Mass at St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Catholic Forane Church located at 508 Elizabeth Ave Somerset NJ.  Following Mass a public visitation will take place at the church and end the services by 10:00pm.     On Wednesday May 29, 2024, a visitation will take place between 8:30am and 9:00am at the St Thomas Syro- Malabar Catholic Forane Church, 508 Elizabeth Ave, Somerset, NJ followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00am.  Entombment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery 899 E Lincoln Ave Piscataway NJ.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Bongiovi Funeral Home 416 Bell Avenue Raritan NJ 908-725-1887.
