Joan M. Shumsky, 92, peacefully passed away on February 25, 2024 at Sunrise Senior Living, Bridgewater, NJ.  She was born on March 20, 1931 to John and Elsie Bartok in Carteret, NJ.  Joan lived in Raritan, NJ for many years after her marriage to Peter.

She is predeceased by her husband Peter and her parents.  Joan is survived by Judith Resko of South Carolina; also Nicholas and Jane Tozzi, Donald Tozzi and Jeffrey Tozzi.  Better neighbors and friends Joan could never have wished for.

Joan was raised in Carteret, and after graduation took a position with the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce.  After Florida, she did a two-year stint with the State Department and worked at the US Embassy in Tokyo, Japan.  Upon returning to the states, she became an integral part of the food science department at Cook College Rutgers until her retirement.  Joan was an avid reader and a collector of old time movies.

Funeral arrangements are private and under the direction of Bongiovi Funeral Home, 416 Bell Avenue, Raritan, NJ.
