Juana Albertina Mayen Obituary

Juana Albertina “Tina” Mayen, 76, was born in Guatemala on July 12, 1947 and died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday August 5, 2023.

As a young woman, Tina bravely traveled from Guatemala to the United States with her two small children at the time and began to build a life in her new country. That life continued in Bridgewater, NJ before ultimately settling in Raritan, NJ.

Tina was most proud of raising her five children and enjoyed being with her six grandchildren. Tina lived a life full of love, sacrifice, and joy, enjoying nothing more than spending time with her large family. She expressed her love in many ways, not the least of which was through her legendary cooking. She will be greatly missed by all, and remembered as a loving mother and grandmother who relished in the adventures of her family. She made everyone laugh with her fun stories, made the best dishes and loved to host all her family and friends at parties. Her nurturing quality, willingness to welcome everyone with open arms, and the ability to recall so many memories together, will be dearly missed.

Juana is survived by her children: her sons - Luis Mayen and wife Ana Mayen, Eddy Mayen, Stephen Mayen and wife Heather Mayen, her daughters - Audrey Mayen, Karen Mayen-Santos and husband Charles Santos, and step-daughter Albita Mayen. Her adoring grandchildren: Grace Mayen, Eddy Mayen, Jr., Joseph Mayen, Giselle Mayen, Avery Santos and Kayla Santos. As well as, her siblings, Juan Barahona and Victoria Mejia. Tina is predeceased by her parents and two sisters.

A viewing will take place on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Bongiovi Funeral Home, 416 Bell Ave. Raritan, NJ. A church service will follow on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at 10:30 am at the Catholic Church of St. Ann, 45 Anderson St., Raritan, NJ.
