Doris R. Hallisey, age 90 of West Windsor, NJ, died peacefully on Tuesday, November 29, 2022. Born February 1, 1932, in Hackensack NJ, to Vincent Joseph and Elizabeth LoPinto. She was a resident of Raritan for 64 years after spending her childhood in Lyndhurst, NJ

Mrs. “H” as she is known in the neighborhood lived her life making friends everywhere, from the line in Shop Rite, to the beauty parlor, and more traditional places like work. Known for her hospitality and love of entertaining, the house in Raritan is where family and friends gathered for many wonderful celebrations and pool parties. Doris was a second mother and grandmother to many people and nothing made her happier than having them over for a meal and conversation. She is renowned for lavish multiple course dinners for the holidays often topping 30 guests and for her favorite, appetizer parties. Doris had a wonderful sense of humor and would make a comment or ask a question that made you do a double-take and then burst into laughter.

For many years, she played cards with a group of local women, often trying out new recipes on them when it was her turn to host. She enjoyed listening to books on tape and catching up with family and friends on the phone was the highlight of her days. When a family could not remember a special date or the background on a family member or friend, it was Doris everyone called. She was involved with the Elks Ladies Auxiliary where her late husband was an exalted Ruler at Somerville Elks Lodge #1068.

Doris was kind, caring, generous, a devoted wife, mother and friend. She was especially proud of her Italian heritage and loved nothing more than to spend time with family, friends and her beloved dog Bella.

Doris retired from the Bridgewater-Raritan Board of Education as a secretary after 25 years of service. She sold Avon for many years and was recognizable driving through Raritan in her black VW bug as she delivered packages to her customers.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Donald E. Hallisey. Meeting as high school sweethearts, they were married for 62 wonderful years. She is also preceded in death by her brother Robert Lopinto.

She is survived by her daughter Debra Hallisey of Lawrenceville, NJ, son Kevin and his wife Carol Hallisey of Jacksonville NC., sister-in-law Patricia Kopp of Pequannock NJ, and Judy Hallisey of Pompton Plains, NJ, brother-in-law Richard Afflitto, and cousin Carol Olimpaito of Flemington, NJ and many loving nieces and nephews along with her granddog Tucker.

Viewing will be held on Friday, December 9, 2022 from 12:00-2:00PM and 6:00-8:00PM at the Branchburg Funeral Home, 910 Rt. 202 South, Branchburg NJ (908) 526-7638. There will be a brief prayer service and an opportunity to remember Mrs. Hallisey at the evening viewing.

Prayers will begin Saturday December 10, 2022 at 7:30-8:15AM at the Branchburg Funeral Home followed by a 9:00AM funeral liturgy at Immaculate Conception Church in Somerville, 35 Mountain Avenue, Somerville, NJ. Entombment will immediately follow in the St. Bernard Cemetery, Bridgewater NJ.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or a charity of your choice.
