Obituary of Clara E Garo

Raritan Borough

Clara E. Garo, 96, of Raritan passed away peacefully on Friday February 22, 2019.   She was born on February 16, 1923 in Stanton NJ to the late Jennie and Hirrie Higgins.  

Clara was raised in Flemington, NJ and moved to Raritan after meeting the love of her life, her husband, Joseph Garo.  She was co-owner of Joe Garo Plumbing and Heating in Raritan, NJ.  In her spare time, Clara was known to be crocheting or knitting an afghan.  She attended bingo, traveled to Atlantic City to play the slot machines and truly enjoyed spending time at her shore home in Lavallette NJ.   Clara was an avid New York Yankees fan.  She was a member of the Ortley Beach Women of the Moose and worked on the Board of Elections for the borough of Raritan.   Clara cherished her family and the time she spent with them. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend who will be sadly missed by all who knew her. 

Clara is survived by her loving daughters Freida DeBaro, Katherine Brannick (husband Arthur) and Bonnie Jo Garo and the joys of her life her grandchildren Joseph (Ronda), Jennine (Jacques), Jon, Claire (Dan), Arthur great-grandchildren Jenna (Juan), Michael, Joey, McKenzie, Meredith, Jon Joseph and Madeline.  She is also survived by her sister Margaret Taylor and many nieces and nephews. 

Clara was predeceased by her husband Joseph Garo (December 27, 1999), a son Joseph, brothers John, Chester, Fred and George and a sister Katherine Sours.    

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday February 28, 2019 at 11:00am at St Ann Church 45 Anderson Street Raritan NJ. 

Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at St Bernard Cemetery 551 Route 28 Bridgewater NJ.  

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Clara’s name to the St Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Susan G Komen Foundation.
