Obituary of David Norman Bower

JERSEY CITY-  David Norman Bower, 58, died on Thursday, March 7, 2024.  Born to his loving parents Favorite Lucille and Norman Arthur Bower on December 2, 1965 in Rochester, New York.  He is survived by his parents and sister.

David persued his education attending from 1985 -1988 the State University of New York Fredonia, New York receiving a Bachelor of Medicine.  He also therafter continued his journey in education attending from 1988-1990 the Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ and from 1991-1993 attended New York University in New York, New York receiving a Master of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy in 2008. 

David was a Director of Sacred Music.  He began his career as an organist at Princeton University Chapel in Princeton, NJ 1988-1990, Music minister at St. John's Church in Hazlet, NJ 1990-1991, Music director at St. Peter's Church in Belleville, NJ 1991-1993, St. Ann Church in Raritan, NJ 1993-2009, St. Michael Church, Cranford, NJ 2009-2023 and at the Cathedral of St. John, Paterson, NJ 2022 -2023.  David shared his talented knowledge as a music educator from 1993-2009, as a lecturer, as a writing instructor at the New York University from 2000-2003 and as founding music director at the Brilla Charter School of Paterson, 2023 to present.

Dr. Bower,did his Postdoctoral Teaching Fellowship at the Frances Clark Center, New School Music Study, Kingston, New Jersey, since 2010. He was a member of the National Association of Music Educators, American Guild Organists, College Music Society, Organ History Society, National Association of Music Educators, American Guild Organists, College Music Society and Organ History Society.  He also was fond of  languages and literature.  

Dr. Bower also performed concerts throughout the Northeast, most notably at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City, New York.

His passion during his life will for ever be remebered by all as a music educator and director.  David Norman Bower has been listed as a noteworthy music educator and director by Marquis Who's Who.
