Obituary of Silvestro E Yuliano MD

Bridgewater NJ.   Silvestro E. “Gene” Yuliano MD, 87, died on Saturday November 20, 2021, at home with his loving wife Diane by his side. He was born on July 8, 1934, in Bronx NY, to his beloved parents the late Laura (Rossi) and Eugene Yuliano.   

Silvestro was well educated having attended St John’s University, receiving a Bachelor’s Degree.  He received his Medical Degree from the University of Ottawa and he was a Diplomate of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.  Dr. Silvestro Yuliano was the Chief Resident at Providence Hospital, Southfield Michigan.  He was also the Past President of New Jersey Obstetrics and Gynecology.  During Dr. Silvestro Yuliano’s career in the medical field, he served as an Assistant Professor OBG UMDNJ Medical School, Chairman and Director of Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at St Peter’s University Hospital, Medical Director State of NJ Division of Medical Assistance and Health Services and was a Physician Specialist I (OBG) UMDNJ/RWJMS Eric B Chandler Health Center.

Silvestro was proud to serve his country honorably and was promoted a Captain in the United States Army Medical Corps and later achieved the rank of Colonel in the Medical Corps NJ Army National Guard.   Colonel Silvestro Yuliano became the State Surgeon, NJARG retiring in 2001.  

Silvestro was fiercely devoted to St Anthony of Padua his entire life.  He was a member of the Holy Name Society at St Ann Roman Catholic Church in Raritan NJ.

Silvestro loved listening to songs by Luciano Pavarotti especially “Nessun dorma” and “Torna a Surriento”.  He loved baseball and enjoyed the days when he played through college.  He was an avid New York Yankees fan and especially admired Joe DiMaggio.  Silvestro loved to travel particularly ocean and river cruising.

Silvestro had a great sense of humor and was a kind, caring and generous individual.    He was a loving husband, father, grandpa, and friend to many.  He loved to tease and joke with his grandchildren and enjoyed many “teachable” moments with them.  Silvestro will be missed by all who knew him

Silvestro is survived by his loving wife of 24 years Diane (Dolan) Yuliano, sons Andrew Yuliano and Joseph Zanelli and wife Jennifer, daughters Andrea Yuliano-Welz and husband Michael and Amy Zanelli and wife Angela and numerous cousins.   He is also survived by the joys of his life his 7 grandchildren.

Viewing will take place on Tuesday November 30, 2021, between the hours of 4:00pm and 8:00pm at the Bongiovi Funeral Home 416 Bell Ave Raritan NJ 08869 (908)725-1887.   

Viewing will take place on Wednesday December 1, 2021, between 10:00am and 11:00am at the funeral home.  Burial with full military honors will follow at 1:00pm at St Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery 36 West Nyack Road Nanuet NY 10954.
