John (Jack) F. Hanlon, 89, entered eternal life on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at Rehab at River's Edge surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 8, 1926 in Massachusetts to the late Veronica Hurley and James Hanlon.
Jack resided in Massachusetts until 1972 when he settled in South Bound Brook, NJ. In 2003, he moved to Manville, NJ and in 2009 he became a permanent resident at Rehab at River's Edge in Raritan.
He served in the U.S. Navy and was a Veteran of World War II. Jack worked as a Longshoreman for the International Longshoreman's Union at the Navy Yard in Charlestown, MA. He was a member of the Cronin Club of Charlestown, MA., the American Legion Post 12 of Somerville, NJ., and the Tin Can Sailors of Somerset MA.
Jack enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a sports fan of the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, Boston Bruins and the New England Patriots. He will be sadly missed by his family and his friends that knew him as a true gentleman.
Jack was predeceased by his beloved wife, Gladys (Ernst) Hanlon, his brother Edward Hanlon and son-in-law Stephen Bentz.
Jack leaves behind 2 loving daughters, Nancy (Hanlon) Bentz and Linda (Hanlon) Gada both of Manville; 2 dear grandsons, John and wife Krysten and James S. Bentz all of Manville; 3 cherished great-grandchildren, Jake, Nicholas and Hailey; a sister Mary (Hanlon) Ligor and husband Ted of MA; a sister-in-law Rita Hanlon and many adored nieces and nephews.
Viewing, Saturday, May 14, 2016, 1:00-3:00pm at the Bongiovi Funeral Home, 416 Bell Avenue, Raritan, NJ 08869 (908-725-1887), with a Military Service at 2:30pm.
Burial, private.
