Leonid Aptekman, 92, of Somerset, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026.

Born on January 18, 1934, in Kharkov, USSR, Leonid was the beloved son of the late Nina (née Izrailevna Chernyak) and Iosif Leontievich Aptekman. He earned master's degrees in both engineering and economics, reflecting his lifelong dedication to learning and intellectual pursuits.

Leonid was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Galina Aptekman, who predeceased him on January 17, 2017. He was a loving and dedicated father to his son, Alex, and took great pride in his family.

Known for his intelligence, kindness, generosity, and caring nature, Leonid touched the lives of all who knew him. He especially enjoyed family gatherings and cherished the time spent with loved ones. He took great pleasure in preparing traditional Ukrainian borscht, and he enjoyed writing essays that reflected his thoughtful and inquisitive mind.

Leonid is survived by his son, Alex and daughter-in-law, Elena Leonidov; his granddaughter, Natalya Vendome, and her husband, Marc Vendome; his great-granddaughter, Alexandra; his sister, Marina Gabay; and his brother-in-law, Vitaly Gabay. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his parents.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Cedar Grove Cemetery, 1823 Amwell Road, Franklin Township, NJ.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bongiovi Funeral Home, 416 Bell Avenue, Raritan, NJ.
