Leonard J. Messineo Jr., 82, of Somerset passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.

Before his retirement Leonard worked as an educator for more than 30 years at Cardinal Hayes High School, Bronx, New York. He also served as Grand Chancellor for the Sovereign Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Knights of Malta, where he demonstrated leadership, wisdom, and a strong fraternal spirit. Leonard also had a deep devotion to St. Michael the Archangel.

Leonard was a devoted husband and brother who will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Anna C. and Leonard J. Messineo Sr., and by his two brothers, Joseph F. Messineo and Salvatore T. Messineo.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 55 years, Agnes M. Messineo and his loving sister, Eloise M. Messineo.

Viewing will be held on Tuesday May 26, 2026 from 3 pm-8 pm and Wednesday May 27, 2026 from 8:45 am-9:30 am at Bongiovi Funeral Home 416 Bell Avenue Raritan, New Jersey 08869.

A Roman Catholic Latin Requiem Mass will follow at The Shrine of the Blessed Sacrament Chapel in Raritan, New Jersey from 10 am-11:30 am followed by Interment at Somerset Hills Memorial Park in Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
