Martinsville, NJ – Harry J. McAvay, 86, died February 15, 2017. He was born in Jersey City, NJ on October 21, 1930 to his late parents Ethel W. Griffin and Harry J. McAvay Sr. Harry was an Electrical Engineer for AT&T, Lucent Technologies and Volt Engineering where he retired on July 13, 2001. Harry was a member of the Western Electric Ski Club, enjoyed sailing, woodworking, and gathering monthly with co-workers at company reunion picnics. Harry was a kind, caring, generous person, and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Harry is survived by his loving sisters, Jean A. Witte and Lois M. Menci; and seven dear nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents. A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, March 9, 2017, 12:00 to 2:00 pm at the Bongiovi Funeral Home, 416 Bell Avenue, Raritan, NJ 08869, (908-725-1887). An inurnment will follow at St. Bernard's Cemetery, Bridgewater, NJ. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, www.shrinershospitals.org/donate.
